International marine pollution conference
Falmouth was put on the centre-stage in the world of marine pollution when it played host to a major international marine pollution conference.
Falmouth Harbour Commissioners (FHC) hosted the oil spill response conference for delegates from across Europe and the UK at Falmouth’s St Michael’s Hotel.
Central to the conference was a real-time exercise in oil-spill recovery which involved the deployment of a 280-metre oil collection boom across Falmouth Harbour. The equipment requires a great deal of machinery, marine equipment and manpower to deploy meaning the opportunities to practise its deployment are relatively rare.
Delegates were able to see the booming exercise from a vantage point established above Falmouth Docks. They included university lecturers, field experts and officials from the Royal Navy Air Service came from the UK, Portugal, Spain, France and elsewhere. They shared their knowledge and experience of best-practice from recent research in oil pollution and oil spill response technique.
Eight Wire designed invitations and marketing materials for the event. Our role included designing, sending and managing digital invitations; designing and printing conference folders and fact sheets in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
Using the branding of the invitations and print material, we also created a range of banner stands, an all-weather PVC banner to indicate the viewing point and, of course, ensured a few branded umbrellas were on hand just in case.
